Heroes may have ended, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your superheroes fix from the show. First comics app gets official launch at Comic-Con

Milo will provide his voice for one of the first comics application available on smartphones, tablets, PCs, and desktops, named Graphic.ly. Read the news below:

Graphic.ly, a digital comics media platform, announced on July 23 at San Diego’s Comic-Con that it now offers the first comics application available on smartphones, tablets, PCs, and desktops. The development separates Graphic.ly from other distributors, such as leader comiXology, which focus their efforts on Apple devices. Graphic.ly’s online store currently carries about 600 titles, including comics from Marvel, Archaia (with which it has an exclusive relationship), Arcana, Archie, BOOM! Studios, IDW Publishing, and TopCow. The company offers exclusive bonus content, similar to the extras offered on DVDs, allowing readers to see individual art layers and comments from creators including star of TV show Heroes Milo Ventimiglia and BOOM! Studios’ Mark Waid. A social media component allows users to follow other readers and to comment on pages and panels.

The Graphic.ly app is available for iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac, and Windows, including Windows 7 laptops, desktops, and portables, as well as for the iPad, in an advanced app that takes advantage of the iPad’s zoom features. Android and web apps are also planned for launch within the year, and forthcoming smartphones and tablet computers will also be supported.Other competing digital comics distributors – including iVerse, Panelfly, and leader comiXology, which hosts more than 2000 comics from 40 publishers and has an exclusive deal with DC Comics – are available only for Apple devices and through web readers. In tailoring his platform to a wider range of devices, Graphic.ly CEO Micah Baldwin says he hopes to bring digital comics to a broader audience. He has said he hopes that DC Comics and other publishers will offer their titles through multiple digital distributors and advocates a standard format – such as the MP3 for music – that would work across all devices and applications, steering away from the Apple-focused app.

Milo and Others Read for ‘Paper Wings’

Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Anna Kendrick, Milo Ventimiglia and a few other actors were photographed leaving the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip on Tuesday morning. The restaurant is famous for its karaoke, crazy parties and a mechanical bull. Some gossip sites were quick to report that it was a four-hour Scientology event, since a good selection of the actors involved are Scientologists. But it was later confirmed to be a table read for a movie called Paper Wings, which is being developed at Smith’s company Overbrook Entertainment.

Other actors at the table reading included Chad Michael Murray, Eric Dane, Tate Donovan, Tom Skerritt, Tom Arnold, Johnny Galecki, and Jenna Elfman. A rep for Overbrook tells Access to “Please note that any actor’s presence at this table read does not mean that they have officially signed onto this project.” The Hollywood Reporter mentions that Cruise is actively seeking other roles incase Mission: Impossible 4 falls through, noting Paper Wings as one of the prospects.

Apparently the film involves a champion bull rider who falls for an up-and-coming country singer (to be played by Reese Witherspoon). The Saddle Ranch was chosen/rented out for the reading because the location provided the right ambience for the project. Gabriele Muccino, the Italian filmmaker behind Smith’s Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happyness, has been approached to direct the film, but no contracts have been signed.

The 32-year-old actor is currently shooting The Divide, a sci-fi thriller that also stars Rosanna Arquette and Michael Biehn, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The film is set to be released sometime next year!

New Teaser Trailer For The Divide Is Out!

Just last week, we heard the news that Heroes was canceled by NBC. This put the cast of Heroes out of work. Many have done movies as well, so I’m sure this cancellation won’t make it the last time we see at least some of our Heroes.

One is even hard at work filming a new project right now! That star is Milo Ventimiglia. He has done a few movies over the years, and his next – a thrilled called The Divide – is set for release at some point in 2011. Production is still on-going, but the first teaser trailer for The Divide hit the net on Friday. This one is an apocalyptic thriller set in New York City after a nuclear blast. The group is then locked in the shelter they take refuge in, and they have to fight for their lives!

‘Heroes’ canceled by NBC

It seemed inevitable but the news is nonetheless shocking: NBC’s drama Heroes won’t be back for a fifth season. The beleaguered drama only averaged 6.5 million viewers this year. It last aired on Feb. 8, when it only brought in a mere 4.4 million.

The show never managed to recapture those stellar ratings from its critically-beloved first season, when it averaged a whopping 14.5 million. There has been talk that NBC may air a movie that allows the producers to wrap up the story, but nothing has been set in stone.

‘Heroes’ Canceled?

It looks like NBC might do the one thing Sylar never could: eliminate the “Heroes.”

According to New York Magazine there are indications that “Heroes” will not be brought back for a fifth season. While there have been rumors that “Heroes” would return with 13 new episodes to wrap up the series, the latest report indicates that NBC is very happy with their upcoming programming slate and notes that the network has already placed orders for five new series in the fall.

However, the report also indicates that “Heroes” might return as a two or four-hour movie to give the fans of the series some closure. Although it also mentions that NBC has yet to bring up this possibility to “Heroes” creator Tim Kring.

“Heroes” debuted on NBC in 2006 with impressive ratings and featured Milo Ventimiglia, Greg Grunberg, Adrian Pasdar, Hayden Panettiere, Masi Oka, Leonard Roberts and Ali Larter as ordinary people who suddenly found themselves gifted with extraordinary superpowers.

However, the audience began to erode during the second season and continued to fall in subsequent seasons for a variety of reasons. Earlier this year, Kring spoke out about the creative difficulties “Heroes” encountered due to network interference.

“It becomes very hard to kill off certain characters,” said Kring. “The network has a very strong say in this, because of actors who are under contract and do publicity for them. It’s not just up to the writers to decide.”

As an example, Splash Page examined the many deaths of Nathan Petrelli on “Heroes,” when Adrian Pasdar left the series last fall. The final fate of “Heroes” will be revealed when NBC unveils its fall schedule later this month.
