Milo Nerdage’s #15 actor with geek appeal

Milo was voted #15 in the top 25 of actors with Geek Appeal by Nerdage. Check the other actors and actresses out here.

Perhaps best-known as Peter Petrelli on the now-cancelled NBC series “Heroes,” actor Milo Ventimiglia isn’t done being a superhero — he’s the voice of Logan on the new G4 animated series “Wolverine,” based on the Marvel comic.

Variety recently reported that Sony online viewing service Crackle was considering Ventimiglia’s ”Strand Street,” about a rookie  cop gone undercover in his hometown.

Ventimiglia’s The Divide recently played the Edinburgh Film Festival, and Ventimiglia also has roles in the upcoming “Static” and “Criminal Empire for Dummies.”

Ventimiglia’s partnership with publisher Top Cow, through his Divide Pictures, produced the miniseries “Berserker” and the collection of the comic-book series “Rest,” which at one point was under development from NBC.

Video: 3-Minute Clip from “Wolverine” Anime

Thanks to G4 we now have a 3-minute clip from the Marvel Television’s “Wolverine” anime, which will be coming to the channel in July. Check it out below.

In the clip, called “Welcome to New York,” Logan uses his claws to come to the aid of Agent Asano and deals with a bunch of AIM goons on the rooftops of New York. Milo Ventimiglia (Rocky Balboa, “Heroes”) voices the title character in the series, which revolves around Logan clawing his way through Japan’s criminal underworld.

Meanwhile, Peter Petrelli (“Heroes”) will lend his voice to the character of Tony Stark in the “Iron Man” anime series, which sees Stark travel to Japan and battle the evil Zodiac Organization.

Milo & Adrian Pasdar to voice Wolverine, Iron Man in G4 series

Update from Wondercon: Marvel Television Announces Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia for Iron Man and Wolverine Anime Series To Air On G4 July 2011

Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb announced casting for two of the company’s much anticipated anime series, IRON MAN and WOLVERINE, at its WonderCon panel today in San Francisco to the delight of fans in attendance. Both series will premiere on G4 in July 2011.

Adrian Pasdar (Heroes, Castle, Profit) will lend his voice to the character of Tony Stark in IRON MAN, an all-new series which sees Stark travel to Japan and battle the evil Zodiac Organization. Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls, Rocky Balboa, Heroes), takes on the title role in WOLVERINE, as Logan claws his way through Japan’s criminal underworld.

“Adrian and Milo are perfect as Iron Man and Wolverine,” said Loeb. “It’s extremely exciting to see these talented guys take on two of the most iconic Super Hero roles of all time.”

As the exclusive US TV home for the series, G4 will air IRON MAN and WOLVERINE along with the BLADE and X-MEN anime series later this year. The network will premiere an exclusive clip from WOLVERINE on Wednesday’s Attack of the Show at 7 pm ET/PT. For more information, check out g4tv.com/marvel

Milo Ventimiglia, Sara Paxton Board ‘Static’

Heroes‘ Milo Ventimiglia, Fairly Legal star Sarah Shahi and Sara Paxton (The Last House on the Left) are toplining Static, a 3D supernatural thriller from New Artists Alliance and Caliber Media.

Ventimiglia and Shahi will play a young couple on the verge of divorce and dealing with the loss of their child. Their life is complicated even further by the arrival of a young visitor (Paxton) with supernatural implications.

NAA, founded by Gabriel Cowan and John Suits, specializes in micro-budgeted and small-budgeted films. Their first effort, Breathing Room, was made for under $20,000 and sold to Anchor Bay and 40 international territories. For their horror pic Growth they used Skype to direct actors for a sequence shot in Korea.

Cowan and Suits are using their low-budget expertise to allow for 3D filmmaking and will use a specialized rig they helped design to hold two Sony PMW-F3 cameras.

NAA’s Cowan and Suits arranged the financing for Static and will produce the movie alongside Andrew Orci and Kerry Johnson. (Levin, Cowan, Suits, and Orci also co-wrote the script.)

Caliber’s Dallas Sonnier, Jack Heller and Jared Schwartz are exec producing. Ventimiglia and his DiVide Pictures producing partner Russ Cundiff are also exec producing.

Milo in Prestige Magazine

Milo Ventimiglia’s sat down for his third photoshoot with Prestige Hong Kong magazine – some of the photos are actually self-portraits by Milo himself. He also sat down for an interview during a packed few days in Hong Kong for the Dior Peking Road boutique opening.

In the interview, Milo talks about how lucky he is to be able to pursue so many interests – photography, acting, directing, producing and so much more – he has ideas about so many things, from fashion to furniture.

“There was a time when I wouldn’t sleep more than three or four hours a night. I would go to work, work out, have hobbies, have a social life, family time, and people were trying to keep up with me. It’s about being cautious with your time.

“You know that the clock is always ticking forward. You can never take it back. You can never go on reverse. You can’t fast forward. You’re exactly where you are at the moment you’re supposed to be. So it’s about embracing that and knowing what you want out of your life, knowing what you want out of the moment.”

Divide thriller gets deal after SXSW screening

The Divide, a post-apocalyptic thriller shot in Winnipeg last May, will be distributed by Anchor Bay in North America following a successful screening at the South by Southwest Festival on the weekend.

According to one industry publication, the film was sold for a “low seven-figure price” after a midnight screening at SXSW Sunday morning.

Directed by French filmmaker Xavier Gens, the suspense film was largely shot in an elaborate bomb shelter set at the Manitoba Production Centre, and starred Michael Biehn, Courtney B. Vance, Rosanna Arquette, Lauren German, 11-year-old Winnipeg actress Abbey Thickson and Milo Ventimiglia.

The reviews for the film have been mixed. Variety critic Joe Leydon called the film “plodding and repetitive in its efforts to maintain pressure-cooker intensity.”

“The Divide resembles nothing so much as an extended Twilight Zone episode as it brings a sci-fi twist to a familiar scenario about stressed characters who bring out the worst in each other while trapped in close quarters,” Leydon said.

David Harley, critic for the horror website Bloody Disgusting was comparatively enthusiastic, saying:

“The Divide is a terrifying and bleak vision of the future whose performances and images will stick with you for days after you watch it.”

If the film has bleak things to say about humanity’s ability to co-operate, the film itself represented an international effort, made with talent culled from Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Local producers included Juliette Hagopian of Julijette, inc. and Nathaniel Rollo, whose parents Tony and Cathy Rollo, owners of Winnipeg Insurance Brokers, provided the necessary funds to keep the movie going after an unanticipated budget shortfall.

Anchor Bay is a leading distributor of horror films.

The Divide screened at SXSW

“Insidious,” a haunted-house story from “Saw’” creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell;  “The Divide,” a sci-fi thriller starring Michael Biehn and Milo Ventimiglia; and  “Attack the Block,” an action-adventure story by “Adventures of Tintin” writer Joe Cornish are some of the movies premiering in the South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival’s midnight program next month, festival organizers announced Thursday.

The Divide — an end-of-the world catastrophe story lensed in Winnipeg last summer — has just been chosen for screening at the prestigious South By South West (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas. The movie’s world première is midnight March 13 as part of the expo’s dark-themed “Midnighter” shows. Nate Rollo, a local producer on the show, will be flying into Austin with show brass and stars, hoping their film will find world-wide distribution there. “The Divide is about a group of survivors who take refuge in a fallout shelter in the basement of a New York City skyrise,” says Rollo. “Things regress into a very ruthless environment for the eight people and then it becomes a game of survival.”

The film’s directed by Xavier Gens from Paris, France whose film Hit Man grossed $99 million at the box office. He turned down earlier distribution offers for The Divide because he thinks this film can go big. Cast includes Hollywood star Rosanna Arquette, who plays the mother of the only child trapped in the shelter (Winnipegger Abbey Phickson), plus Lauren German (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Courtney B. Vance (Law and Order: Criminal Intent). Michael Biehn (Terminator, The Abyss) plays the paranoid building super who built the bomb shelter. Also watch out for Ashton Holmes (The Pacific, HBO), and Milo Ventimiglia, a star of Heroes, Parisian actor Ivan Gonzalez and Canadian actor Michael Eckland. “Michael goes through the most dramatic change in character you’ve ever seen in a film,” says Rollo.
